Badrinath Temple is a revered Hindu shrine dedicated to Lord Vishnu, located in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand, India. It is one of the four sacred Char Dham pilgrimage sites, along with Kedarnath, Gangotri, and Yamunotri. Situated at an elevation of approximately 3,133 meters (10,279 feet) in the Garhwal Himalayas, the temple lies on the banks of the Alaknanda River, nestled between the Nar and Narayan mountain ranges.
Historical Significance: The temple’s origins trace back to the 8th century when Adi Shankaracharya established it as a prominent pilgrimage site. It is believed that he discovered a black stone idol of Lord Badrinath in the Alaknanda River and enshrined it in a cave near the Tapt Kund hot springs. Later, the idol was moved to the present temple structure.
