The Mahakaleshwar Temple is a revered Hindu shrine dedicated to Lord Shiva, located in the ancient city of Ujjain, Madhya Pradesh, India. Situated on the banks of the holy Kshipra River, it is one of the twelve Jyotirlingas, which are considered the most sacred abodes of Shiva. 

History

The temple’s origins trace back to ancient times, with references in various Puranas. It was destroyed during the invasion by Iltutmish in 1234–35 and later rebuilt by the Maratha general Ranoji Shinde in the 18th century.
